The Houston Texans added offensive tackle and cancer survivor David Quessenberry to their 53-man roster, the team announced. Quessenberry, who was a sixth-round pick out of San Jose in the 2013 NFL draft, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin T-lymphoblastic lymphoma three years ago. He has not played in a regular-season game in his NFL career.

The 27-year-old Quessenberry had been on the Texans' non-football illness list since 2015, but he played in the preseason this summer. The Texans cut him prior to the regular season, however.
Quessenberry was named the 2017 winner of the prestigious George Halas Award, the Professional Football Writers of America organization announced in June. The Halas Award is annually presented to a NFL player, coach or staff member who overcomes the most adversity to succeed.
Quessenberry, born in the San Diego suburb of La Jolla, spent the entire 2013 season on injured reserve after sustaining a broken foot.
In June 2014, he was laboring through workouts with fatigue and a persistent cough and was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
The Texans (4-10) will host the Pittsburgh Steelers (11-3) on Christmas Day.
