Dec. 19 (UPI) -- The Denver Broncos have promoted cornerback Michael Hunter from the practice squad and placed linebacker Shane Ray on injured reserve.
Denver announced the moves on Tuesday.

Hunter entered the NFL last season as an undrafted free agent signing by the New York Giants. He was also a member of the New York Jets' practice squad, before he joined the Broncos' practice unit. The 6 foot, 192 pound defender had 111 tackles and four interceptions in college for Oklahoma State and Indiana. He will wear No. 39 for the Broncos.
Ray becomes the 13th Broncos player to be placed on inured reserve. He recently had his third wrist surgery in four months.
"Life comes at you sometimes and you have to make the best of things," Ray tweeted Tuesday. "After my 3rd wrist surgery it's time that I get healthy so that I can be the best I can be. As always I appreciate the love and support and I'm looking forward to what we will be as a team next season!"

The third-year outside linebacker hard 16 tackles and a sack in eight games this season. Ray, 24, was the No. 23 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft out of Missouri.
Shaquil Barrett will likely step in for Ray, with Von Miller, Brandon Marshall and Todd Davis manning the other linebacker positions.
