Andy Jones: Detroit Lions promote WR, place T.J. Jones on IR

Dec. 19 (UPI) -- The Detroit Lions have signed practice squad wide receiver Andy Jones and placed wide receiver T.J. Jones on injured reserve.

Detroit announced the moves on Tuesday. The Lions also signed cornerback Adairius Barnes to the practice squad.

T.J. Jones, 25, was having his best season this year for the Lions. The 6 foot, 188 pound pass catcher had 30 catches for 399 yards and a score. Jones suffered a shoulder injury in Saturday's 20-10 win against the Chicago Bears. He had three catches for 26 yards and a touchdown in the victory.

"Nothing hurts more than having the game you love taken away from you abruptly," Jones posted Tuesday on Instagram. "This season will be one for the books and i wish i could be there to help my team make this playoff run. I refuse to let this injury be anything more than a minor setback. Life keeps you on your toes and you cant always control what happens. But what you can control is how you choose to react to the situation that has been placed before you. Thank you for the love and support through this tough time. 2018 I'm coming you!"

Jones was a sixth round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. The Notre Dame product is set to become a restricted free agent this offseason.

Andy Jones went undrafted last year out of the University of Jacksonville. He spent his rookie season with the Dallas Cowboys' practice squad before signing on with the Houston Texans. Jones joined the Lions in September. He appeared in one game this season for the Texans.

Barnes signed with the Lions as an undrafted rookie free agent last season out of Louisiana Tech. He appeared in seven games last season, making three tackles.
