Dec. 15 (UPI) -- The Minnesota Vikings have added tight end Kyle Carter from the practice squad to the active roster.

Minnesota announced the move on Friday. The Vikings also signed safety Jack Tocho to the practice squad and placed tight end Blake Bell on injured reserve.

Carter, 24, spent the 2016 offseason and preseason with the Vikings after joining the franchise as an undrafted rookie free agent. The Penn State product was released during final roster cuts and signed to the practice squad. Carter spent the entire 2017 season with the Vikings but was cut during roster cuts and signed to the practice squad in September.

This is the first time Carter has been called up to the 53-man active roster.

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer told reporters Friday that he thinks Carter is a "good player." He also said Carter is good at both pass catching and blocking.

Zimmer added that Bell will eventually have surgery on his injured shoulder. The Vikings coach said Kyle Rudolph will not play in Week 15. Rudolph did not practice all week because of an ankle injury, which he suffered in the Vikings' Week 14 loss to the Carolina Panthers.

"It feels good, feels like it's definitely coming full circle now," Carter told reporters, according to the Vikings' website. "But I definitely still have a lot of work to do, and I'm just appreciative of the opportunity.

"I feel like I'm ready. [tight ends coach Clancy] Barone got me ready, and Kyle Rudolph, David Morgan and Blake have definitely been great all year."

The Vikings face the Cincinnati Bengals at 1 p.m. Sunday at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
