Los Angeles Chargers roll over Washington Redskins

CARSON, Calif. -- The Los Angeles Chargers remained among the hottest teams in the NFL with a 30-13 win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday at the StubHub Center.

The win set up a battle for first place in the AFC West on Saturday when the Chargers play at the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chargers and the Chiefs, who beat the Oakland Raiders 26-15 on Sunday, are tied for first with 7-6 records.

The Chargers have won seven of their last nine games. They started this season, their first back in Los Angeles after spending the better part of six decades in San Diego, 0-4. The 1992 Chargers are the only NFL team to start a season 0-4 and make the playoffs.

Washington fell to 5-8 and was eliminated from playoff contention.

Los Angeles led 13-0 after the first quarter and 23-6 at halftime.

Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers completed 18-of-31 passes for 319 yards and two touchdowns. He was replaced by backup Kellen Clemens early in the fourth quarter.

Los Angeles' Keenan Allen logged 100 or more receiving yards for the fourth week in a row and for the sixth time this season, finishing with six catches for 111 yards.

Chargers receiver Tyrell Williams added four catches for 132 yards and a touchdown. Tight end Hunter Henry caught a touchdown pass for Los Angeles, and Melvin Gordon rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown for the Chargers on 22 carries.

Travis Coons kicked three field goals for Los Angeles.

Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins, operating behind an injury-depleted offensive line, completed 15 of 27 passes for 151 yards and a touchdown.

The Chargers had 488 total net yards to 201 for Washington. Los Angeles also had 24 first downs to Washington's 9.

NOTES: Keenan Allen's six receptions Sunday give him 84 for the season, a career high for the fifth-year player. ... Los Angeles left tackle Russell Okung injured his right knee in the first quarter, limped gingerly off the field but later returned although his mobility appeared compromised. ... The Chargers have 10 interceptions in their past four games. ... Washington linebacker Chris Carter injured his left ankle in the fourth quarter. An air cast was applied and Carter left the field on a cart. ... Since beating Seattle on Nov. 5, the Redskins have lost five of their past six games. The lone win during that span was a 20-10 win over the New York Giants.
