Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Running back Ameer Abdullah is questionable Sunday for the Detroit Lions but is not expected to play.

A source told NFL Network that Abdullah is not expected to play for "more than injury reasons." That report stated that the team wants to try out other players to improve their running game.

Abdullah has not rushed for 100 yards in any game this season. He is averaging 3.4 yards per carry. Abdullah has four touchdowns on the season for the Lions.

The 24-year-old is in his third-year in the NFL. He ran for 597 yards and two scores on 143 carries during his 2015 rookie campaign, but played in just two games last season after landing on injured reserve. The former second round pick out of Nebraska signed a four-year contract with the Lions in 2015.

Abdullah was limited in practice this week due to a neck injury. The Lions have Zach Zenner, Theo Riddick, Dwayne Washington and Tion Green listed at running back on their unofficial depth chart.

Green had a strong showing the Lions' Week 13 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The Lions' rookie had 51 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries. Riddick had 21 yards and a score on nine carries. He also had 41 yards on five catches.

"I thought he did a nice job," Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford said of Green, according to the team website. "I'm not sure how many carries or how many yards he had or whatever. I know he had the nice long one, we did a great job blocking on that play I think. I'm not sure he got touched until he was 20, 25 yards down field. But thought he did a nice job, didn't seem like it was too big for him, he just stepped in there and played."

The Lions face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 1 p.m. Sunday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.
