Cincinnati Bengals rookie wide receiver John Ross admitted to concealing an injury to his left shoulder, coach Marvin Lewis said during an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

Lewis said that Ross had been hiding the injury before finally "coming clean" with the team, which placed him on injured reserve Wednesday. The coach said that the ninth overall pick of the 2017 draft didn't divulge the severity of the injury because he wanted to play.

Ross' latest injury is not related to the right shoulder ailment that caused him to have surgery prior to the draft and pushed back his Bengals' practice debut until late training camp.

The 23-year-old Ross then sustained a knee injury during the final preseason game before returning in Week 2, only to be benched after fumbling on an end-around play.

Ross failed to make a catch on two targets and had one rush for 12 yards in three games. He had been ruled inactive in nine of the team's 12 games this season.
