Dec. 4 (UPI) -- The Indianapolis Colts have signed running back Matt Jones.
Indianapolis announced the signing on Monday. The Colts placed cornerback Pierre Desir on the injured reserve list in a corresponding transaction. The team also signed cornerback Taurean Nixon to the practice squad.
Jones, 24, was originally a third-round pick by the Washington Redskins in the 2015 NFL Draft. The 6 foot 2, 239 pound running back joined the Colts earlier this season, after being promoted from the practice squad. The Colts waived Jones on Dec. 2. Jones had 14 yards on five carries in three games for the Colts this season.
He has 248 carries for 964 yards and six scores during his NFL career. Jones also has 377 yards and a touchdown on 27 receptions in 23 career games. He has seven career starts.
Desir entered the NFL as a fourth round pick by the Cleveland Browns in the 2014 NFL Draft. He also spent time with the San Diego Charters and the Colts previously. The 6 foot 2, 198 pound defensive back played two seasons for the Browns, before joining the Chargers last season.
He was claimed off of waivers, by the Colts, from the Seattle Seahawks on Sept. 3. Desir had 32 tackles, seven passes defensed and an interception in nine games this season for the Colts. He has 80 tackles, 15 passes defensed, one interception and one special teams tackle in 33 career games.
