Dec. 3 (UPI) -- All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski had a very productive Sunday, but he will be remembered most for delivering a cheap shot to the Buffalo Bills.

The New England Patriots were up 23-3 in the fourth quarter of their Week 13 win against the Bills. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady stepped back and fired a deep ball to his right, which was intercepted by Tre'Davious White with about 4:39 remaining in the AFC East bout.

White was out of bounds and on the ground after making the play. Gronkowski ran up from behind White and jumped on top of him with his 6 foot 6, 265 pound frame. White is listed at 5 foot 11, 192 pounds.

Referees tossed yellow flags in the area for Gronkowski's cheap shot. White writhed around on the ground in pain, before he was escorted off of the field. Gronkowski was not ejected for the unsportsmanlike act, but was assessed a penalty. White left the game and was examined for a concussion.

The Bills' No. 1 cornerback is now in the concussion protocol. His Week 14 status is in jeopardy, as is Gronkowski's. The tight end will almost certainly hear from the NFL for the brutal hit and could see a fine and/or suspension early next week.

Gronkowski admitted to the cheap shot after the game and said he was sorry.

"I apologize to No. 27," Gronkowski told reporters. "I'm not in the business of that. There was a lot of frustration and I was just really frustrated at that moment and it just happened. A lot of emotions and frustration, I just want to apologize to Tre'Davious White."

"I don't really believe in the type of shots like that but just during the frustration process game of football emotions. That's just what happened."

Gronkowski also complained about the officiating, something else that could earn him a fine.

"At the top of the route, I felt like there was a big hold at the top and I feel like he kind of pushed me a little bit and he made the play and I just don't understand why there wasn't a flag," Gronkowski said. "And there was a couple times in the game. They are calling me for the craziest stuff ever. It's like crazy, like what am I supposed to do? Then they don't call that. It was just frustration. That's what happened."

Gronkowski led all receivers with 147 yards on nine receptions in Sunday's win. The Patriots' next game is a Monday Night Football matchup against the Miami Dolphins at 8:30 p.m. Dec. 11 in Miami.
