RENTON, Wash. -- Despite rushing for just 46 yards on 17 carries against the San Francisco 49ers last week, the Seattle Seahawks were encouraged by the performance of running back Eddie Lacy.

"I really liked that he ran hard and ran tough, and you could see him knocking piles forward," head coach Pete Carroll said on Monday.

"Like I said, the protection wasn't great, but he showed us his style, and we got to feel him. He played throughout the game, and it was the first time we got a chance to do that, so we got a good feel for him."

Lacy had his best runs in the first quarter, carrying six times for 28 yards. That success waned as the game continued as Russell Wilson threw the ball 34 times and J.D. McKissic took snaps at running back as well.

"The truth of it is, Eddie did a nice job last week and so going forward, we just keep trying to do this the right way and not ask him to do too much," offensive line coach Tom Cable said.

Lacy still has just 176 rushing yards on 68 carries this season.
