Nov. 29 (UPI) -- The Oakland Raiders have signed wide receiver Isaac Whitney.
Oakland added wide receiver Tevaun Smith to the practice squad in a corresponding transaction. The Raiders announced the moves on Wednesday.
Whitney, 23, entered the NFL in May as an undrafted free agent signing by the Raiders. He spent the first 12 weeks of the season on the Raiders' practice squad. The 6 foot 2, 204 pound pass catcher transferred to USC after playing at Riverside Community College in California He also played one season at Central Oklahoma in 2013. Whitney had 11 catches for 144 yards and two scores in 13 games for the Trojans.
He'll wear No. 19 for the Raiders.
Smith entered the NFL with the Colts in 2016, signing as an undrafted rookie free agent. He has appeared in two NFL games.
The Raiders are suddenly in need of a wide receiver after losing Michael Crabtree to a two-game suspension, following a Week 12 fight with Denver Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib. Crabtree's suspension was reduced to one game on Tuesday, meaning he will still miss Sunday's game against the New York Giants.
Raiders star wide receiver Amari Cooper missed practice on Wednesday as he is in the concussion protocol and dealing with a sprained ankle. The Raiders also have Seth Roberts, Cordarrelle Patterson and Johnny Holton at wide receiver.
"Well, it'll be similar to how we finished the game last week," Raiders coach Jack Del Rio told reporters Wednesday. "We've got guys that we will be counting on. Cordarrelle, Johnny, Seth Roberts and then we're bringing up Isaac Whitney. So, we'll have our guys ready to go."
"For me, it's always about the Raiders vs. the opponent and this week, it's the New York Giants. We understand they have talented players and talented coaches that are working hard to try and come in here and disrupt what we want to get done and we're working hard to make sure we understand the strengths that they have and the things that they like to do and get ourselves as prepared as possible before we go compete."
The Raiders host the New York Giants at 4:25 p.m. Sunday at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum.
