Byron Marshall: Washington Redskins sign RB after moving Kelley to I.R.

Nov. 15 (UPI) -- The Washington Redskins signed a running back from the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad after putting Rob Kelley on injured reserve.

Washington announced the signing of Byron Marshall on Tuesday. The Redskins also signed free agent defensive lineman Caraun Reid.

Linebacker Will Compton joined Kelley on the reserve/injured list, while defensive lineman Brandon Banks was waived and Tavaris Barnes was cut from the practice squad.

Marshall, 23, joined the Eagles as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2016. He spent the entire season on the Eagles' practice squad before being called up to the active roster for the final three games. He had 64 yards on 19 carries and 10 yards on three catches in those three games. The 23-year-old also returned kicks on special teams.

Marshall had 111 yards and a score on 31 carries this preseason. The 5-foot-9, 201-pound ball carrier had 1,038 yards as a sophomore at Oregon. He recorded 1,003 receiving yards as a junior. He suffered a lower leg injury, limiting his senior campaign.

He will wear No. 34 in Washington.

Reid -- a 6-foot-2, 298-pound defender -- was a fifth-round pick by the Detroit Lions in the 2014 NFL Draft. He spent two seasons with the Lions before joining the Chargers in 2016. He recorded five tackles, a sack, a fumble recovery, a pass defensed and a touchdown in seven games last season. He appeared in one game this season for the Lions before getting cut.

The Redskins only had Samaje Perine and Chris Thompson available at running back on their current depth chart, before the Marshall signing.
