Akeem Ayers: New York Giants add linebacker

Nov. 15 (UPI) -- The New York Giants were busy this week, adding linebacker Akeem Ayers, guard John Greco and wide receiver Kalif Raymond to the active roster.

New York announced the moves on Tuesday. The Giants waived defensive end Devin Taylor and wide receiver Ed Eagan, while placing linebacker Keenan Robinson on injured reserve in corresponding transactions. New York added tight end Matt LaCosse and offensive lineman Nick Becton to their practice squad.

Robinson was hurt on Nov. 5 when he suffered a quad injury in the Giants' loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

Ayers was originally a second round pick by the Tennessee Titans in the 2011 NFL Draft. He was traded to the New England Patriots in 2014 and signed with the Rams in free agency in 2015. Ayers joined the Colts in 2016, but has not played this season.

The 6 foot 3, 247 pound defender had 18 tackles, two sacks, two passes defensed and an interception in 16 games last season with Indianapolis. His best season came in 2012 with the Titans. That year he had six sacks, 104 tackles, eight passes defensed, a forced fumble and an interception in 16 games. Ayers won a Super Bowl in 2014 with the Patriots. The UCLA product has 51 starts and 91 career appearances during his NFL tenure.

Greco was a third round pick by the Rams in the 2008 NFL Draft. He had 70 starts for the Rams and Cleveland Browns, including 45 games at right guard, 24 games at left guard and one game at center. The 6 foot 4, 318 pound offensive lineman joined the Browns in a 2011 trade. He was cut on Sept. 2 and signed with the New Orleans Saints on Oct. 2. He was cut again on Nov. 8.

Raymond was an undrafted free agent signing by the Denver Broncos in 2016. He was waived after training camp and spent three months with the Broncos' practice squad before making the active roster on Dec. 2.

The 5 foot 9, 160 pound pass catcher averaged 10.1 yards on 11 punt returns and 22.8 yards on six kickoff returns in four games for the Broncos. He was waived at the end of training camp and awarded to the New York Jets on Sept. 3. Raymond appeared in two games this season for the New York Jets. He was waived on Sept. 19 but signed with the Jets' practice squad. He was signed again on Sept. 26. He joined the Giants' practice squad on Oct. 11, before getting cut on Halloween. He was re-signed on Nov. 1.
