Nov. 13 (UPI) -- Celebrating wasn't on Marquise Goodwin's mind after his touchdown Sunday for the San Francisco 49ers. Instead, he prayed for his lost son.

Goodwin and his wife Morgan lost their baby boy early Sunday morning after a premature delivery.

The pass catcher was on the receiving end of an 83-yard pitch-and-catch from 49ers quarterback C.J. Beathard in the second quarter of the contest.

Beathard stepped back on the 49ers' 17-yard-line on the play, before firing a pass through the air to the New York Giants' 35-yard-line. Goodwin pulled the ball down and escaped the defense before finishing off the play.

He kissed his hand and blew it toward the sky before taking a knee and beginning his prayer. Goodwin then went down to both knees and bowed his head. He collapsed to the ground, before his teammates came to join him.

Two of those players were Beathard and offensive lineman Trent Brown, who ran the entire length of the field to be with their emotional teammate.

The sensational snare was Goodwin's only catch in Sunday's 31-21 win. Sunday was the first victory this season for the 49ers.

"I just wanna thank those who've genuinely prayed for @morganakamomo & myself through out this pregnancy," Goodwin posted on social media Sunday. "Unfortunately we lost our baby boy due to some complications, and had to prematurely deliver him early this morning around 4am. Although we are hurt, I am grateful for the experience and grateful that God blessed me with a wife as courageous and resilient as Morgan. The pain [physically, mentally, & emotionally] that she has endured is unbelievable. Please Pray for the Goodwin family."

Goodwin, 26, left the locker room immediately after the game to join his family, according to multiple reports. The 49ers have a bye in Week 11. They face the Seattle Seahawks on Nov. 26 at Levi's Stadium.

"It was a great play call by [head coach] Kyle [Shanahan]," Beathard told reporters after the game. "It was a perfect play call for that coverage that they had. [TE Garrett] Celek and [RB] Carlos [Hyde] did a great job picking up the pressure they brought, an all-out blitz. They did a great job stepping up there and taking it to those two guys that were blitzing. The O-Line gave me a bunch of time to get it up to Marquise, a speedster who we knew could get over the top of any coverage. He's the fastest guy in the league. I just had to put it out there for him. He did a great job of breaking the tackle."
