Cleveland Browns: Josh Gordon declares himself 'clean and sober'

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon, who last played in a game at the end of the 2014 season, pronounced himself "clean and sober" when he addressed the media Wednesday.

Gordon reported to the Browns' facility on Tuesday after he was conditionally reinstated by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. The 26-year-old had been suspended indefinitely since September 2016 without pay for multiple violations of the league's substance-abuse policy.

Gordon told reporters he has his sights set on another goal -- to be the NFL's best receiver ever.

"Ultimately my goal is to be the best wide receiver of all time, so I think any wide receiver, any position should see themselves in that way," Gordon said Wednesday. "For me, that's always been my goal, and it's just been re-affirmed for me time and time again and now being back in the situation to do it, I plan on seeing it through."

Gordon, who admitted in a GQ magazine interview that was published Monday that he used drugs or alcohol before every NFL game he played, has been suspended for 51 of his last 56 Browns games and recently spent more than 100 days in rehab.

"(I'm) in a good spot. ... I know I have the support in place outside and inside the building," Gordon said. "My life is just in a conducive space of where I need to be for me psychologically, physically. It's all come together. Right now, at this point in my life I'm feeling well. I'm feeling great.

"I'm here to help the team win. That's my first priority. Being the best football player I can be -- that comes first and foremost. Anything else after that I have no control over. I'm here to help this team win and do that the best way I know now. That's being the best wide receiver."

Gordon said he had a one-on-one meeting Tuesday with Browns coach Hue Jackson.

"It was good," Gordon said of the meeting. "It was a bunch of laughs, a bunch of smiles, Coach Jackson's a great guy. He understands football, he understands players and me and him have a good relationship. He's supportive more than anything. He's just shown his support throughout the entirety of my transition coming back and I'm glad to be working with him and I'm glad that he's here."

Gordon can attend team meetings and is eligible to start practicing with the Browns on Nov. 20. He can be added to the 53-man roster on Nov. 27, which means he could play again in Week 13 against the Los Angeles Chargers on Dec. 3.

Gordon was asked about his admission to GQ that he never played a game without being on drugs or using alcohol.

"Anything like that has already been stated," Gordon said Wednesday. "I know I'm clean and sober and I'm looking forward to that. The ceiling is very high and there's a lot of potential there."

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Gordon had 87 catches for a league-leading 1,646 yards in 2013, his second year in the league.
