Washington made the move Friday after the team activated veteran safety DeAngelo Hall from their reserve/physically unable to perform list.
Franklin 29, and guard Arie Kouandjio joined the Redskins on Oct. 28. The 6 foot 6, 315 pound guard entered the NFL as a second round pick by the Denver Broncos in the 2011 NFL Draft. He played his first four seasons with the Broncos before joining the San Diego Chargers in 2015. Franklin started 16 games for the Chargers in 2016 but appeared in just one game this season for the Redskins.
Hall has spent the 2017 season on the PUP list while he recovers from an ACL tear.
The Redskins are currently without Spencer Long, Shawn Lauvao and possibly Trent Williams. Lauvao is out with a stinger and Long and Williams are doubtful this week with knee injuries.
Brandon Scherff is questionable Sunday due to a groin injury.
The Redskins have lost three of their last four games heading into a Week 9 contest against the Seattle Seahawks. The game kicks off at 4:05 p.m. at CenturyLink Field in Seattle.
Washington wide receiver Jamison Crowder was also downgraded to out on Saturday due to a hamstring injury. He did not travel with the team.
