Zay Jones: Buffalo Bills rookie channels 'Star Wars' in TD celebration

Nov. 3 (UPI) -- Rookie wide receiver Zay Jones broke out his best Darth Vader Thursday after scoring a touchdown for the Buffalo Bills.

Jones lined up out wide with 14:57 remaining in the second quarter and the Bills trailing the New York Jets 7-0. Tyrod Taylor took a snap from the 10-yard-line and fired a pass to Jones in the middle of the end zone. The rookie snagged the football for his first career touchdown before running to celebrate with teammates.

He eyed fellow wide receiver Andre Holmes for a premeditated sequence. The duo pretended to have a Lightsaber battle before Jones channelled his Dark Side powers.

He flexed his left hand, pretending to be controlling Holmes' body with supernatural powers. Holmes pretended to choke and fell backwards.

The Bills picked up 62 yards on the eight-play scoring drive, which took 3:16.

Jones had 53 yards on six catches in the Bills' 34-21 loss. But Jones didn't escape the evening unscathed. The second-round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft left later in the second quarter due to a knee injury. He was hurt when his right knee turned in an awkward manner after he got his cleat stuck in the turf with 2:17 left in the first half. Jones returned to the game in the third quarter, but left again in the fourth frame.

"He's a warrior," Taylor said of Jones after the game, according to BuffaloBills.com. "He wants to be out there on the field. He wants to compete. He's a confident guy. I hope the injury isn't too bad. I want him out there on the field. I know his passion for the game and how he wants to play."

Jones, 22, has 168 yards on 16 catches this season.

"I'm always building confidence each and every day," Jones told the team website. "I've got great timing with my quarterback and feel that groove in play, so my confidence is building and I'm working on that each and every day."

Star Wars: The Last Jedi debuts in December.

The Star Wars movie franchise debuted in 1977, 18 years before Jones was born.
