New York Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins has been suspended indefinitely for violation of team rules, the club announced Tuesday.

The suspension takes effect immediately, with Jenkins scheduled to miss Sunday's home game against the Los Angeles Rams.

"As a member of this team, there are standards and we have responsibilities and obligations," coach Ben McAdoo said. "When we don't fulfill those obligations, there are consequences. As I have said before, we do not like to handle our team discipline publicly. There are times when it is unavoidable, and this is one of those times."

Jenkins was not in attendance on Monday as the Giants returned from their bye week, with McAdoo telling reporters that the 29-year-old had been excused for personal reasons.

"At that point, neither myself nor any of the coaches had heard from Jackrabbit," McAdoo said. "I did not speak with him directly until Tuesday morning."

It was at that point that Jenkins had been informed of his suspension.

Jenkins is the second cornerback for the Giants (1-6) to be suspended this season, with Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie receiving a ban three weeks ago after leaving the field during the team's setback to the Los Angeles Chargers on Oct. 8.

Jenkins recorded an interception for a touchdown against the Denver Broncos on Oct. 15 and has 24 tackles in six games this season.
