Cleveland Browns: DeShone Kizer named starting QB -- again

The Cleveland Browns are staying with rookie quarterback DeShone Kizer, naming him the starter for Sunday's game in London against the Minnesota Vikings.

Coach Hue Jackson announced Wednesday that Kizer, who was benched in the second half after throwing two interceptions last Sunday against the Tennessee Titans, will make his second straight start.

"I am sure he doesn't want the yo-yo," Jackson said about Kizer. "But it goes both ways. Developing quarterbacks, they still have to do what you asked them to do. In that process of developing a quarterback, I want them to not turn the ball over."

Kizer was pulled for the second time in three games. Cody Kessler took his place in Sunday's 12-9 overtime loss to the Titans. Kizer also was benched in Week 5 for Kevin Hogan, who started the sixth game for the winless Browns.

"It is another opportunity to go out there and get it right for once," Kizer told reporters about Sunday's game at Twickenham Stadium. "For me, it is about taking these opportunities that Coach has been able to give me in a league where not a lot of guys get these, and maximizing it for once.

"I feel like I am definitely getting better and I am on the path of evolving myself into a guy who can win in this league, but it is about eliminating, obviously, the turnovers and the plays that are stopping us from winning games and finally going out there and competing in a game. It has been a good three weeks since I have been able to go out there in the fourth quarter and attempt to win a game, and I am looking forward to having a complete game."

Kizer, who is last in the NFL with a 47.8 quarterback rating, will make his seventh start of the season.

Kizer, who was drafted in the second round, is 93-of-179 passing (52 percent) for three touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He has been sacked 12 times.
