According to the Carmel Police, Mathis was traveling the wrong way on a one-way street and failed to use a turn signal. He was arrested but subsequently released Tuesday morning.

The Colts said they were aware of the incident.

"We are aware of the incident involving Robert Mathis last night," the team said in a statement. "We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time."

Mathis, 36, was hired last month to be the Colts' pass-rush consultant after spending his entire 14-year career with the team.

He is the franchise leader with 123 sacks and recorded 19 1/2 sacks in 2013.
