Hunter Sharp: Denver Broncos sign WR to active roster

Oct. 18 (UPI) -- The Denver Broncos have signed wide receiver Hunter Sharp to their 53-man active roster.

Denver announced the signing on Wednesday. The Broncos also signed wide receiver River Cracraft to their practice squad in a corresponding move.

Sharp entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent signing in 2016 with the Philadelphia Eagles. The 5-foot-11, 198-pound pass catcher was one of the Broncos' final roster cuts in September. He was signed to the team's practice squad in Week 17 of last year. Sharp, 23, had 92 yards and a touchdown on six catches this preseason for the Broncos. He also had a 17-yard punt return.

Denver released defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin and placed offensive lineman Billy Turner on injured reserve on Tuesday. Turner underwent hand surgery.

Cracraft is a rookie out of Washington State. The 6-foot, 198-pound pass catcher ranks No. 2 in Cougars history with 218 receptions and No. 6 in receiving yards and receiving scores.

The Broncos' depth chart looked thin at wide receiver with Cody Latimer, Isaiah McKenzie and Emmanuel Sanders dealing with ailments. McKenzie and Sanders have already been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

"The two receivers, Emmanuel Sanders and Isaiah McKenzie both suffered right ankle sprains," Broncos coach Vance Joseph told reporters Monday, following the Broncos' 23-10 loss to the New York Giants. "They're both going to be out this week, first of all. After this week, they'll be week-to-week. Billy Turner broke his right hand. He has a right had fracture. He's having surgery up in Vail as we speak. He's going to be out this week. After the week is over, he'll be week-to-week, also. Trevor's [Siemian] MRI came back positive for us, so he's fine. He'll go Sunday. Demaryius Thomas had an MRI on his lower leg. It's a bruise. He's fine, so he'll go this week. That's pretty much it as far as the injuries from the ball game last night."

Denver and Los Angeles kickoff at 4:25 p.m. Sunday at the StubHub Center in Carson.
