Oct. 18 (UPI) -- A Change.org petition has more than 15,000 signatures for the Green Bay Packers to sign Colin Kaepernick.

The petition was started Sunday and had more than 15,000 signatures as of Tuesday morning. Oakland, Calif. native Tracey Corder kicked off the initiative.

"Aaron Rodgers is possibly out for the rest of the season but there's a Wisconsin-born QB who should be on our team! Lets make sure the organization know we support Kaepernick to the Packers!" the group description says.

The Packers are in need of a quarterback after likely losing Aaron Rodgers to a broken collarbone in Week 6. But the team did agree to a deal with Joe Callahan on Monday and coach Mike McCarthy seems settled in with what the depth chart currently reads for the position. Brett Hundley is expected to be the team's starter for the remainder of the season.

McCarthy was asked about the possibility of bringing in Kaepernick Monday.

"Did you just listen to that question I just answered? I got three years invested in Brett Hundley," McCarthy told reporters. "Two years invested in Joe Callahan. The quarterback room is exactly where it needs to be. OK? We're fortunate to have a great quarterback in Aaron Rodgers. We're committed to the path that we're on. We need to play better as a football team."

Kaepernick began his protests against racial inequality and police brutality last season by sitting and then kneeling during the national anthem before San Francisco 49ers games. He opted out of the final year of his contract with the team in March and has yet to land with another franchise.

The quarterback recently field suit against the NFL, accusing all 32 team owners of collusion.

Kaepernick, 29, was born in Milwaukee.
