Callahan, 24, was originally signed by the Packers on May 6, 2016 as an undrafted rookie free agent. The Wesley College product was released in October of 2016 and spent time on the New Orleans Saints and Cleveland Browns active rosters before being signed to the Packers' practice squad on Dec. 2. The Packers signed Callahan to the active roster on Dec. 17. He was released after training camp and spent the first six weeks of the 2017 season on the Packers' practice squad.

Callahan completed 13-of-21 passes for 112 yards this preseason. He did not throw a touchdown or an interception.

Callahan was the first NCAA DIII quarterback to pass for at least 5,000 in a season in 2015. He earned the Gagliardi Trophy for his efforts, the highest honor in DIII football.

Packers superstar Aaron Rodgers suffered a broken right collarbone in the first quarter of Sunday's loss to the Minnesota Vikings. The injury will require surgery, which will likely end his season.

Brett Hundley leads the Packers' depth chart at the position, with Callahan serving as the only backup.

"He [Hundley] came in and played his butt off," Packers receiver Randall Cobb told reporters Sunday, according to the team website. "He took a bunch of shots. He was able to get up and keep playing. He held onto a couple when a lot quarterbacks get hit, they're going to lose those balls. I love his toughness and the way he bounced back and kept playing."

The Packers host the New Orleans Saints at 1 p.m. Sunday at Lambeau Field.
