Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Veteran cornerback Leon Hall has joined the San Francisco 49ers.

San Francisco announced the move on Tuesday. The 49ers placed cornerback Asa Jackson on injured reserve in a corresponding move. Jackson joined the 49ers' active roster in September after being called up from the practice squad.

Hall's new deal is for one year.

The 32-year-old defensive back entered the NFL as a first round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2007 NFL Draft. He spent nine years with the Bengals before signing with the New York Giants in 2016. Hall had 30 tackles, two passes defensed, an interception and a forced fumble in 12 games last season. He also started in the Giants' playoff loss, making five tackles and one pass defensed.

Hall had 517 tackles, 129 passes defensed, 26 interceptions, five forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in 121 games for Cincinnati. He had 105 starts during his Bengals tenure.

San Francisco claimed defensive back Dexter McCoil and waived defensive back Lorenzo Jerome earlier this week. The 49ers currently have Rashard Robinson, Dontae Johnson, Ahkello Witherspoon, K'Waun Williams and Hall as the only healthy cornerbacks on the depth chart.

Witherspoon left the 49ers' Week 6 loss to the Indianapolis Colts due to a concussion.
