The Detroit Lions are expected to sign former first-round draft pick Datone Jones to strengthen the team's defensive line, multiple outlets reported on Tuesday.

Jones was the 26th overall pick of the 2013 draft by the Green Bay Packers. The 27-year-old has recorded 73 tackles, nine sacks and seven passes defensed in 59 career games with the Packers.

Jones then spent training camp this season with the Minnesota Vikings before being placed on injured reserve. He was eventually released with an injury settlement in September, allowing him to sign with the Lions.

Jones likely will serve to spell starters Ezekiel Ansah and Anthony Zettel and compete with George Johnson, Jeremiah Valoaga and Cornelius Washington for playing time with Detroit.
