HOUSTON -- Texans defensive end J.J. Watt required aid leaving the field after sustaining a non-contact knee injury during the Kansas City Chiefs' opening possession against Houston on Sunday night at NRG Stadium.
Watt crumpled to the turf while attempting to pressure Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith on third down from the Texans 17-yard line. Watt initially remained on his knees before rolling over on his back and displaying obvious discomfort. He was helped off the field, unable to put pressure on his left leg. Watt was later carted to the locker room and declared out.
The Texans lost linebacker Whitney Mercilus to a chest injury earlier on the same drive.
