The New York Giants promoted center Jon Halapio from their practice squad on Wednesday with Weston Richburg in the concussion protocol.

To make room on the roster, the Giants waived linebacker Deontae Skinner, who was re-signed last week and was inactive in Sunday's 25-23 loss at Tampa Bay.

Halapio was signed to a reserve/future contract by the Giants on Jan. 9. He played in all four preseason games, including a start at left guard in the finale at the New England Patriots, before he was waived on Sept. 2. Halapio was signed to the practice squad the following day.

Halapio entered the NFL as a sixth-round draft choice by New England in 2014. He was with the Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals before returning to the Patriots for training camp in 2016. Halapio has not played in an NFL regular-season game.

Richburg has started the Giants' last 26 games, including one postseason game, at center. He was replaced by Brett Jones when forced to leave the game against the Buccaneers. Jones likely will start this Sunday's home game against the Los Angeles Chargers if Richburg remains sidelined.

Besides Richburg, a number of others appeared on Wednesday's injury report, including defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul (knee/shoulder) and wide receiver Brandon Marshall (toe). They joined wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. (finger/ankle), cornerback Janoris Jenkins (ankle) and defensive end Olivier Vernon (ankle). Beckham and Marshall were limited participants in Wednesday's practice.

The Giants also signed offensive lineman Anthony Fabiano to the practice squad. He played in four games for the Cleveland Browns last season, starting at center in the season finale.
