Tre McBride: Chicago Bears promote WR from practice squad, add LB Thompson

Oct. 2 (UPI) -- Practice squad wide receiver Tre McBride has been added to the Chicago Bears' active roster.

Chicago announced the move on Monday afternoon. The Bears signed linebacker Jason Thompson to their practice squad in a corresponding transaction.

McBride, 24, joined the Bears off of waivers on Sept. 3 from the Tennessee Titans. He was waived on Sept. 23 and signed to the team's practice squad on Sept. 26.

McBride entered the NFL as a seventh round pick by the Titans in the 2015 NFL Draft. He has two catches for eight yards and a touchdown in his NFL career. McBride had 897 yards and 10 touchdowns on 55 catches during his sophomore season at William & Mary. He had 809 yards and four scores during his senior season for the Tribe.

The 6 foot, 210 pound pass catcher will compete for snaps at wide receiver with Kendall Wright, Deonte Thompson, Markus Wheaton and Josh Bellamy.

Chicago faces the Minnesota Vikings at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9 in a Monday Night Football matchup at Solider Field in Chicago.

The Bears have already announced that rookie quarterback Mitchell Trubisky will start Monday's game.

Rookie running back Tarik Cohen currently leads the Bears with 24 receptions. Wright leads the Bears with 154 receiving yards.
