Fantasy Football: Week 4 Tight End Rankings

Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Kansas City Chiefs Pro Bowler Travis Kelce tops our Week 4 fantasy football tight end rankings.

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz has made a name for himself as one of the top tight ends in football this season. He has the sixth-most receiving targets in the NFL and leads the position in receiving yards and receptions. But he isn't alone.

Tight ends like Delanie Walker, Jimmy Graham and Martellus Bennett also appear to be very important to their offenses. Although the essence of the position in fantasy football hovers around 50 receiving yards and hoping for a touchdown, there is hope now for more playable options at the position.

Here are my Top 20 options at the position this week.

TOP SHELF

Travis Kelce isn't being targeted as much as I would like him to be this season but he still ranks fifth in receiving yards at the position. This week his Kansas City Chiefs battle the Washington Redskins on the road. Washington has allowed the most receiving yards to tight ends this season (250) and the fourth-most fantasy points per game to the position. Kelce had just one catch for one yard in Week 3. Call this a "get right" game. He is my top tight end for Week 4.

Green Bay Packers tight end Martellus Bennett faces a former team Thursday night, in the Chicago Bears, for an NFC North matchup at Lambeau Field. Chicago has allowed the second-most receiving yards to tight ends this season. Get ready for another rebound game in this spot, as Bennett has more targets than Jordy Nelson through three games. He is my No. 6 tight end for the week in a game that I expect that Packers to dominate.

SNEAKY PLAYS

Coby Fleener is my No. 9 tight end for the week. The New Orleans Saints are going to London to face the Miami Dolphins on Sunday morning at Wembley Stadium. Drew Brees should dominate this secondary and makeshift group of linebackers. Fleener has now scored in consecutive games, while the Dolphins have allowed the seventh-most fantasy points per game to tight ends. Lock him in as a low-end TE1 even in shallow leagues.

Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jesse James has a very good matchup and is my No. 12 tight end in Week 4. The Steelers are traveling to Baltimore to face the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens have allowed the most fantasy points per game to opposing tight ends this year. James hasn't score since reaching the end zone twice in Week 1 but he has a decent chance to do it again here. He is a TE2 in shallow leagues but can be started in leagues with 12 teams or more.

LONGSHOTS

Miami Dolphins tight end Julius Thomas could be worth a dart throw with his matchup against the New Orleans Saints. Thomas has yet to score this season, but the Saints haven't been great against tight ends, allowing the eighth-most fantasy points to the position. He is a TE2 in Week 4, but worth a shot if you are stuck.

Ryan Griffin and the Houston Texans have an AFC South matchup against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday. Griffin earned his second start in three weeks in Week 3 and rewarded the Texans with 61 yards and a score on five catches. The Titans have allowed the sixth-most receiving yards to tight ends through three weeks. Griffin is my No. 18 tight end, placing him in the TE2 tier.
