Sept. 17 (UPI) -- Linebacker Lawrence Timmons is not expected to play Sunday after leaving the Miami Dolphins in California.

Timmons went missing on Saturday and the team was trying to find him, according to multiple reports. Timmons was not at the team hotel, but the team found out where he was on Sunday. His status for the 4:05 p.m. contest against the Chargers was reported as uncertain Sunday morning.

The Miami Herald reported that "something angered" Timmons and he is not expected to play in the Week 2 contest. The Herald also reported that Timmons was not arrested or "run afoul of law."

A league source also told the Palm Beach Post that Timmons is out for the game.

Miami traveled to California early for the contest due to Hurricane Irma hitting South Florida. The Dolphins did not play in Week 1 as their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was moved to Week 11 on November 19 at Hard Rock Stadium.

The former Pittsburgh Steelers defender joined the Dolphins in March on a two-year, $12 million contract. He was expected to be the team's starting strong side linebacker.

Timmons has made 101 consecutive NFL starts.

Miami will be exposed at linebacker for the contest in the absence of Timmons. Kiko Alonso is one of the team's starters on the outside while Mike Hull starts inside. The Dolphins have a pair of unproven linebackers in Justin March-Lillard and Chase Allen on their depth chart.

Miami signed Rey Maualuga during the preseason, but he has been ruled out of the contest because of a hamstring injury.
