Sept. 11 (UPI) -- Arizona Cardinals star David Johnson could miss extended time after suffering a wrist injury in Sunday's loss, according to a team source.
That source told ESPN that the team will determine if Johnson will miss a "few weeks" or "half the season or more."
A source told NFL Network that X-rays came back negative on Johnson's wrist and he'll have an MRI on Monday. That report stated the preliminary diagnosis as a sprained wrist.
"I don't know anything about X-rays yet," Cardinals coach Bruce Arians told reporters after the loss, according to ESPN.

"DJ Johnson has a wrist, we'll find out the severity of that. It happened on the fumble," Arians said in his postgame comments.

Johnson's injury occurred with 4:03 remaining in the third quarter of his team's 35-23 loss to the Detroit Lions. Johnson ran to the left for a five yard gain before having the ball stripped by Lions defensive tackle A'Shawn Robinson. The ball was scooped up by linebacker Jarrad Davis. Johnson gave chase and brought Davis down, but injured his wrist while making the tackle.
Before the injury, Johnson managed just 23 yards on 11 carries. He fumbled twice. He also had six receptions for 68 yards.
Johnson ended the 2016 season with a sprained MCL injury. If this injury is serious enough to warrant a stint on short-term injured reserve, Johnson wouldn't' be available until the Cardinals' contest in Week 10 against the Seattle Seahawks.
Replacing Johnson is easier said than done for your fantasy football squad. He was an almost consensus No. 1 overall pick in drafts, so this will be a huge hit to some fantasy football squads. If you need someone else to step in, you are likely best-suited to use someone already on your roster, as Johnson's backups aren't likely to come near his production.
Kerwynn Williams will be a hot name on the waiver wire this week. He is the Cardinals' second-string running back and the team's main return man on special teams. Andre Ellington is listed as the No. 3 running back on the Cardinals' depth chart, but likely isn't relevant for fantasy football purposes.
