Sept. 4 (UPI) -- The Green Bay Packers and guard Lane Taylor have agreed to a three-year contract extension. Packers executive vice president, general manager and director of football operations Ted Thompson announced the deal on Monday.
Sources told the Green Bay Press-Gazette and NFL Network that Taylor's new deal is for $16.5 million. The contract includes a $5 million signing bonus and $7.8 million in 2017. Taylor's extension begins after the 2017 season, meaning it expires after the 2020 season.
Taylor, 27, originally signed with the Packers in 2013 as an undrafted free agent out of Oklahoma State. He started every game for the team last season. Taylor was one of three rookie free agents to make the Packers' opening day roster in 2013. He has 46 appearances and 18 starts in the regular season and seven postseason appearances in four seasons with the franchise.
Taylor was a unanimous first-team All-Big 12 selection as a senior with the Cowboys.
He is expected to begin the season at left guard for the Packers.
"Being the starter is obviously a lot different," Taylor recently told the team website. "You're preparing for something, not just scraping to get the roster spot. I'm glad where I'm at and I appreciate it."
Jahri Evans is slated to start the season at right guard and Bryan Bulaga will come in at right tackle. David Bakhtiari will start at left tackle and Corey Linsley at center for the Packers.
