Fantasy Football: Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers game could be affected by Hurricane Irma

Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Miami Dolphins officials are watching Hurricane Irma's track and considering their options regarding the date of the team's season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Miami Herald reported Monday that "finding a day in the next week" for the game would be the more likely option than moving the contest to the teams' shared Nov. 18 bye week date if the game were to be postponed from its current 1 p.m. start time on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium.

Irma is currently a Category 3 storm in the Atlantic Ocean.

On Monday, the National Hurricane Center said the storm was 610 miles east of the Leeward Islands during its 5 a.m. EDT advisory update. The storm had winds topping 120 mph and was moving west-southwest at 14 mph. Irma's current path has the eye of the storm near Cuba at 2 a.m. on Saturday, according to predictions.

The Dolphins moved their game in 2004 against the Tennessee Titans from a Sunday to Saturday because of a storm. The team also moved its contest against the Kansas City Chiefs up a few days in 2015 because of Hurricane Wilma.

Hard Rock Stadium is built to withstand a Category 4 hurricane, according to the Herald.

The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that as of now, there are "no plans to delay or move the game."
