Sept. 2 (UPI) -- Wide receiver Sammie Coates is staying in the AFC North after being traded to the Cleveland Browns.

Cleveland announced the trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday. The Steelers also sent a 2019 seventh round draft pick to Cleveland in exchange for a 2018 sixth round pick.

Coates, 24, was originally a third round pick by the Steelers in the 2015 NFL Draft. The Auburn product had just one catch for 11 yards in seven games during his rookie campaign. Last year he had 435 yards and two touchdowns on 21 receptions in 14 games. Coates started five games last season for the Steelers.

The 6-foot-1, 212-pound wide receiver has also averaged 25 yards per kickoff return during his career.

Ironically enough, the 2018 sixth round draft pick the Steelers received was originally given to the Browns in the 2016 trade for defensive back Justin Gilbert.

Coates had a hand injury last season and had a knee scope in 2017. He began Steelers training camp on the physically unable to perform list. Coates was a long shot for playing time after the Steelers drafted JuJu Smith-Schuster in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft and got Martavis Bryant back from a suspension. Pittsburgh also signed Justin Hunter.

The Browns have Kenny Britt, Corey Coleman and Ricardo Louis at the top of their depth chart at wide receiver.
