Chicago Bears: Kicker Roberto Aguayo gets the boot

The Chicago Bears released beleaguered kicker Roberto Aguayo, who was waived earlier this month by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

According to multiple reports, the Bears cut the former second-round draft pick ahead of all NFL teams trimming their rosters to 53 players by 4 p.m. ET Saturday

Tampa Bay selected Aguayo 59th overall in 2016 out of Florida State. He was released after missing two kicks, including an extra point, in the Bucs' first preseason game. General manager Jason Licht took responsibility for the early pick being a bust.

Aguayo, 23, struggled for the Bucs last season, going 22 of 31 on field goals and just 4 of 10 on attempts between 40-49 yards.

The Bears claimed Aguayo a day after he was cut by the Buccaneers. He continued to struggle with the Bears, shanking a 49-yard field goal wide right in his first attempt for the Bears in the second preseason game.

Veteran Connor Barth will be the Bears' kicker for a second straight season.
