Christian Bryant: Cleveland Browns sign defensive back

Aug. 24 (UPI) -- He went to high school 10 minutes from FirstEnergy Stadium and now Christian Bryant is a member of the Cleveland Browns.

The Browns announced the signing of the fourth-year defensive back on Wednesday. Bryant, 25, was a seventh-round pick by the St. Louis Rams in the 2014 NFL Draft. He has appeared in 12 NFL contests during his short career. Bryant played in nine games in 2015 for the Rams and three games for the Cardinals last season.

The Rams waived Bryant before the start of last season. He has five career tackles.

Bryant had 168 tackles, 11 passes defended and two interceptions during his career at Ohio State. He is listed at 5-foot-9, 195 pounds.

The Glenville High School product will wear No. 36 for the Browns.

Cleveland has Derrick Kindred, Ed Reynolds and Kai Nacua at free safety and Jabrill Peppers, Calvin Pryor and Ibraheim Campbell at strong safety. Reynolds is dealing with a sprained MCL while Campbell is dealing with a concussion.

The Browns ranked last in total defense last season in the AFC. Cleveland ranked No. 21 in pass defense last year.

The Browns travel to Florida to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Raymond James Stadium.
