Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Veteran free agent defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks has signed with the San Francisco 49ers. San Francisco announced the one-year deal on Wednesday. The 49ers also activated defensive back Jimmie Ward from the active/physically unable to perform list on Wednesday.

Marks, 30, entered the NFL in 2009 as a second round draft pick of the Tennessee Titans. He spent four seasons with the Titans before joining the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2013. Last season he had 22 tackles, 3.5 sacks, a fumble recovery and a pass defended in 16 games for the Jaguars. In 2014, Marks led the Jaguars with a career-high 8.5 sacks. He started once last season and was released on March 9.
He has 284 tackles, 21 passes defended, 19 sacks, six forced fumbles and an interception in 103 career appearances. He has 61 career starts. The 6-foot-2, 305-pound defender will wear No. 75 in San Francisco.
The 49ers also have DeForest Buckner, Earl Mitchell, Quinton Dial, Chris Jones and D.J. Jones at the position. Buckner, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, has been dealing with ankle issues this offseason. The 49ers signed Mitchell as a free agent in February. D.J. Jones joined the 49ers in the sixth round of the 2017 NFL Draft out of Mississippi. The 49ers also took Solomon Thomas with the No. 3 overall pick in this year's draft.
Arik Armstead, the 49ers' No. 17 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, can also move inside to tackle at some points this season when the 49ers use a rotation.
Marks ranked No. 76 on the 2015 NFL Top 100 list.
San Francisco ranked last in total defense last season and allowed a league-high 480 points.
