Siemian, 25, started 14 games last season. He completed 59.5 percent of his passes for 3,401 yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He was competing for the job this offseason with second-year gunslinger Paxton Lynch. The Broncos picked Lynch with the No. 26 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.

Siemian has completed 14-of-18 passes for 144 yards and one touchdown in two games this preseason. He hasn't thrown an interception. Lynch has completed 15-of-22 passes for 81 yards, but hasn't thrown a touchdown or an interception. Lynch has made three first downs and averaged 3.7 yards per attempt. Siemian has made eight first downs and averaged eight yards per attempt.

Lynch posted a 74.2 passer rating while Siemian registered a 118.5 rating.

Joseph recently talked to reporters about what he saw from the quarterbacks in Saturday's 33-14 win against the San Francisco 49ers.

"Well, I saw Paxton make some plays with his legs, which he should. He's an athlete. And Trevor, he was solid. He was Trevor. He made good decisions. His ball placement was on point tonight. You know, he controlled the huddle, so I was pleased with Trevor," Joseph said.

Siemian said he has shown enough to be named the starter.

"I think for me I just wanted, when I came back in the spring, I thought I had room to grow as a player and I think I have done that and I think I still have more room to grow no doubt," Siemian told reporters. "I think just from when I came back in the spring I have done a lot of good things personally that I wanted to get down. Still, no doubt, I have a long way to go again, but yeah, I think that's it."

Joseph's news conference is scheduled for 1:15 p.m., MT.
