Philadelphia Eagles overtake Buffalo Bills on Byron Marshall TD

PHILADELPHIA -- Byron Marshall scored the go-ahead touchdown from 1 yard out with three minutes left, and the Philadelphia Eagles came from behind to defeat the Buffalo Bills, 20-16 Thursday night at Lincoln Financial Field.

Undrafted free agent running back Corey Clement also rushed for a score, Caleb Sturgis connected on two of three field goals and the Eagles evened their preseason record at 1-1.

Reserve quarterback T.J. Yates threw a late 9-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Reilly while Stephen Hauschka kicked three field goals as the Bills fell to 0-2.

Yates' touchdown pass came directly after Greg Mabin intercepted a pass from Philadelphia's fourth string quarterback Dane Evans and returned it 24 yards to set up the Bills in the red zone.

Eagles starter Carson Wentz, who was projected to play sparingly, actually led the team for the first four drives, completing 6 of 9 passes for 56 yards.

Backup quarterback Matt McGloin engineered a steady drive just before halftime with Clement barreling in from 6 yards out for a 13-3 Eagles advantage with 47 seconds remaining.

McGloin performed admirably, completing 12 of 20 passes for 131 yards and one interception.

Hauschka connected on a 26-yard field goal as time expired to get the Bills within 13-6 at halftime. Quarterback Nathan Peterman relieved starter Tyrod Taylor and guided the Bills on a nine-play, 67-yard drive capped by the field goal.

Taylor struggled mightily, going 8 of 18 for 53 yards and two interceptions while playing most of the first half. Peterman, a fifth-round draft choice from Pittsburgh, appears to have jumped past Yates and into the second string position.

The Bills played without newly acquired wide receiver Jordan Matthews, who was picked up from the Eagles for cornerback Ronald Darby. Matthews didn't travel to Philadelphia as he's recovering from a chip fracture in his sternum.

Buffalo wide receiver Rod Streater was carted off the field with a foot injury with 14:08 remaining in regulation. There was no immediate word on his condition.

Darby had a strong debut with an interception and 48-yard return late in the first quarter. Linebacker Mychal Kendricks also had a strong outing with an interception and a sack.

The Bills were hurt severely by penalties all game long and they had a whopping 13 for 91 yards after the third quarter alone and a total of 15 for 131 yards.
