Aug. 17 (UPI) -- The Detroit Lions have waived/injured third-year linebacker Brandon Copeland. Detroit announced the move on Wednesday. The Lions also signed free agent offensive lineman Connor Bozick, tight end Andrew Price and defensive end Giorgio Newberry in corresponding moves.
Bozick originally signed with the Lions earlier this offseason. Before entering the NFL, Bozick was a two-time All-Colonial Athletic Association selection at tackle and guard for Delaware. He started 24 consecutive contests and appeared in 46 games overall in four years for the Blue Hens. Bozick signed with the Lions in May after an injury to linebacker Brandon Chubb. He was waived a week later when the franchise signed Tony Hills.
Price was an undrafted free agent out of UNLV. He had 47 catches for 445 yards and four scores in 45 games for the Rebels. Newberry entered the NFL last offseason. He signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as an undrafted rookie free agent in 2016. Newberry had 36 tackles, two sacks, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble in 54 games at Florida State.
Copeland, 26, has one career NFL start. The Baltimore-born linebacker has 19 tackles, 0.5 sacks and a forced fumble in 32 games for the Lions. If Copeland clears waivers, he will revert to the Lions' injured reserve list and miss the 2017 season.
The Lions lost defensive end Kerry Hyder to a torn Achilles in Sunday's 24-10 win against the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium. He is out for the season. Copeland was also lost for the season in that same game after suffering a torn pectorals.
