Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut kicker Roberto Aguayo

Aug. 12 (UPI) -- One of the best kickers in NCAA history is now without a job, after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers waived Roberto Aguayo.

Tampa Bay announced the move on Saturday. Aguayo, 23, went 22-of-31 on field goal attempts during his rookie season. The No. 59 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft hit 32 of his 34 extra point attempts last year, the worst percentage among kickers.

At Florida State, "Mr. Perfect" never missed an extra point, going 198-of-198. He made 88.5 percent of his field goal tries, going 69-of-78. He was a consensus All-American in 2014 and won the Lou Groza Award in 2013. Aguayo ranks No. 3 All-Time in the NCAA in field goal percentage and in points scored for the ACC.

Tampa Bay traded its third round and fourth round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft to the Kansas City Chiefs in order to pick Aguayo in the second round.

Aguayo was active in the Buccaneers' 23-12 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals Friday at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. He made his first try, a 20-yarder, before missing an extra point and a 47-yard attempt in the fourth quarter.

The Buccaneers signed Nick Folk this offseason. He made a 45-yard attempt on Friday against the Bengals.

"You've got to enjoy it, you've got to embrace it," Aguayo told reporters on Aug. 4 when asked about the competition. "I'm blessed to be out here. At the end of the day, my biggest competition is within myself. It's good to have someone out here just to see, to visually see someone [else]. But at the end of the day, I know what I'm capable of doing. I've done big things throughout my career and I know that I'm capable of doing that and capable of being here. So at the end of the day it's just going out there and having fun, enjoying it and just hitting the ball."

The Buccaneers signed Folk in March.
