Aug. 12 (UPI) -- Tight end Matt Weiser has signed with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Los Angeles announced the deal on Friday. Weiser, 24, played four seasons at the University of Buffalo from 2012 through 2015. He had 92 receptions for 1,080 yards and eight scores in those four years for the Bulls. Weiser made a preseason appearance with the Chargers in 2016.

He first signed with the Chargers as an undrafted rookie free agent in May of 2016 but was waived on Sept. 3. Weiser was first-team All-Mid-American Conference his senior season after tallying 63 catches and 625 yards, both marks ranked No. 2 among tight ends nationally. Weiser is listed at 6-foot-5, 241 pounds.

"Crazy how fast things change!! Beyond grateful and excited to re-sign with the LA Chargers and get back into camp," Weiser tweeted.

Second-year player Hunter Henry is expected to be the team's primary tight end this season, playing alongside veteran Antonio Gates. Henry had 478 yards and eight touchdowns on 36 receptions during his rookie season with the franchise. Gates had 548 yards and seven scores on 53 receptions in 2016 and is entering his 15th season with the Chargers.
