Washington Redskins' Kirk Cousins shows off humor in mic'd up training camp sessions

By Alex Butler

Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Most Kirk Cousins talk is about his contract, but the Washington Redskins quarterback had a lot of other things on his mind while wired up at training camp.

Washington put out a video of the quarterback on Wednesday. In the 2:59-minute clip, Cousins jokes around with some of his teammates and talks about his love for music.

"So you got a barn on your place?" Cousins asked cornerback Josh Norman.

"Yep," Norman said.

"That's pretty cool," Cousins responded.

Backup quarterback Nate Sudfeld lined up in the backfield and said "I look like Brandon Jacobs at halfback."

"You are so far from Brandon Jacobs, it's not even funny," Cousins said.

Sudfeld is listed at 6-foot-6, 227 pounds. Jacobs played at 6-foot-4, 256 pounds.

"I met him at a Lifetime Fitness in Atlanta, you look nothing like him," Cousins said.

Cousins then lined up in the backfield for the next drill.

"Now I get to be like Brandon Jacobs. I'm more like Eric Dickerson," Cousins said.

"More like Emily Dickinson," Sudfeld said.

"Nice burn," Cousins said. "She was a great poet."

He also pulled out some quotes from the movie Zoolander when wide receiver Matt Hazel made a catch.

"Hazel is so hot right now," Cousins said.

At the end of the clip, Cousins discussed his affection for music.

"I listen to a lot of contemporary Christian worship music," Cousins tells one of his coaches. "I listen to a lot of alternative rock. My favorite band in the world is Switchfoot. I also like Matt Kearney. I really like Coldplay. I've been kind of razzed for liking Creed a lot. But I was joking, when I tweeted it I said, 'today Creed was played at the team lift. Today was a good day.' I just got killed. People just came out of the woodwork: 'I knew I hated this guy, he loves Creed.' I'm like 'Creed was alright, like in seventh grade.'"

Washington also put several videos on its team website of the quarterback talking into his microphone.

Cousins, 28, is set to play out the 2017 season on a $23.94 million franchise tag, after not reaching an agreement on a long-term deal with the franchise this offseason. The 2016 Pro Bowler is coming off a season in which he threw for a career-best 4,917 yards.
