Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill sustained an apparent injury to his left knee during Thursday's practice.

Tannehill was scrambling toward the sideline and went down without contact. Trainers were examining his brace-covered left knee before taking the 29-year-old inside for further evaluation.

Tannehill sustained a sprained ACL and MCL in the same knee last season, but did not require surgery. He missed the Dolphins' last three regular-season games and their playoff loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Dolphins have yet to officially address the injury, with the Miami Herald reporting that coach Adam Gase instructed players not to comment. Tight end MarQuies Gray told reporters that the players were praying for Tannehill.

The eighth overall pick of the 2012 draft, Tannehill completed 67.1 percent of his passes, throwing for 2,995 yards, 19 touchdowns and 12 interceptions with a career-best 93.5 passer rating in 13 games.

Backup Matt Moore, who took over first-team reps on Thursday, posted a 2-2 mark last season in place of Tannehill.

Brandon Doughty, who was a seventh-round pick of the 2016 draft, and David Fales are also listed on the team's depth chart.

With questions surrounding Tannehill, fellow quarterback Colin Kaepernick and even retired Jay Cutler have been inserted into the conversation.

Kaepernick has been a man without a team since early March after opting out of his contract with the San Francisco 49ers. The 29-year-old's unemployment has sparked conversation as to whether he is being blackballed for his decision to kneel during the national anthem during games to raise awareness for social injustices.

Gase may be inclined to look in Kaepernick's direction, as he reportedly had an offensive plan involving the elusive quarterback when he was interviewing for the vacant 49ers' job 2 1/2 years ago.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross said earlier that he believes if Kaepernick can help someone win, he would "hope" that a coach would sign him.

Perhaps the team's fan base might disagree as Kaepernick was booed heartily in South Florida for wearing a Fidel Castro shirt last year.

Cutler, who is now a Fox Sports analyst, has ties with Gase, who was his offensive coordinator with the Chicago Bears.
