Pittsburgh Steelers rookie running back James Conner is nursing a sprained right AC joint in his shoulder and is not expected to miss significant time, coach Mike Tomlin said Wednesday.

Conner underwent additional medical tests after sustaining the injury during Sunday's practice.

"It appears to be minor -- days (until he returns)," Tomlin said.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that Connor likely will return to practice later this week.

Conner was a popular pick by the Steelers in the third round of April's draft after overcoming Hodgkin's Lymphoma while playing his collegiate career at Pittsburgh.

The 22-year-old Conner joins Fitz Toussaint and Knile Davis in the backfield as the team awaits the return of Le'Veon Bell, who has yet to sign his $12.1 million franchise tender.

Conner rushed for 1,060 yards and 16 touchdowns in his final season with the Panthers. He finished his collegiate career with 3,701 yards on 660 carries with 52 touchdowns.
