Carolina Panthers rookie RB Christian McCaffrey relentlessly jukes LB Luke Kuechly

Aug. 2 (UPI) -- He might be a four-time All-Pro, but Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly has no shot at guarding rookie Christian McCaffrey one-on-one.

The former Stanford running back showed why on Wednesday at Panthers training camp.

McCaffrey ran a route on the play, jetting right into the flat. He faced up with Kuechly first, before bolting toward the flank. He turned his body and made the catch, with his face looking back at the quarterback. He then stuck his cleats in the ground, sending the four-time Pro Bowler to the ground, McCaffrey then ran toward the middle of the field. Kuechly pursued, but the 2013 Defensive Player of the Year failed again.

McCaffrey picked a step-back juke out of his toolbox to send Kuechly flying to his left. He then took off toward the sideline.

Kuechly was the No. 9 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. He had 102 tackles, two sacks, six passes defended, an interception and a forced fumble in 10 games last season. Kuechly ranked No. 20 on the 2017 NFL Top 100 list. He ranked No. 7 on the 2016 NFL Top 100.

McCaffrey was the 2015 Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Year. The No. 8 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft had 1,913 yards from scrimmage and 16 touchdowns last season for the Cardinal. He posted 2,664 yards from scrimmage and 13 scores in 2015.

He recently told the Panthers team website that he grew up with a little area of grass in his back yard to practice his moves.

"We had a little grass patch," McCaffrey told Panthers.com. "There wasn't a lot of space to work with, so I had to find different ways to make my older brother miss.

"I don't know, I think it just came naturally."

McCaffrey, 21, ran a 4.48 second 40-yard dash at the 2017 NFL Scouting Combine. The 5-foot-11, 202 pound running back was compared to former All-Pro Tiki Barber in his NFL.com scouting profile.

The rookie joined a backfield including Jonathan Stewart, Fozzy Whittaker, Cameron Artis-Payne and Jalen Simmons on the Panthers' depth chart.
