ALLEN PARK, Mich. -- Matthew Stafford has changed his tune on working with a private quarterback coach.

Late in the 2013 season, when the Detroit Lions' quarterback was struggling with turnovers and a low completion percentage, he said he had no interest in working with a personal quarterback coach because if wasn't his style. But this summer, he spent a few days in California training with Tom House's 3DQB group.

Stafford had one of the best seasons of his career last year, when he led the Lions to eight come-from-behind victories and completed nearly 66 percent of his passes. He said he decided to expand his workout program after consulting with good friend Matt Ryan, who also spends part of his summer at 3DQB.

"I just think I want what's best for this team, I want what's best for me as a player," Stafford said. "If I play well our team's going to play well. It just goes into preparation and doing everything you possibly can. I'm sure people go see certain coaches and it may not work for them. They say, 'OK, well, I tried and I didn't like that or I like this.'

"It's not an overhaul of what I'm going to do. I'm not going to be throwing left-handed out there, but just little things here and there to think about to keep you as sharp as you can in the offseason."
