The Dallas Cowboys are expected to add depth to their backfield by signing running back Ronnie Hillman, ESPN reported on Thursday.

Hillman will join Darren McFadden and Alfred Morris behind star Ezekiel Elliott, who is facing possible discipline from the NFL for an alleged domestic violence incident in July 2016.

The 25-year-old Hillman will occupy the roster spot made available after the team cut Lucky Whitehead on Monday hours after the wide receiver/kick returner initially was accused of petty larceny. Police later reported that it identified the wrong man and regretted the impact its errors had bestowed upon Whitehead and his family.

Hillman rushed for a career-best 863 yards and seven touchdowns in his final season with the Denver Broncos in 2015. He has totaled 1,976 career rushing yards and 12 rushing scores over five seasons with the then-San Diego Chargers, Minnesota Vikings and Broncos.
