July 26 (UPI) -- He was the No. 26 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, and now Marcus Smith is looking for a new job after being waived by the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Eagles made the transaction Wednesday. Smith, 25, played at Louisville before joining the Eagles. He never made a start during his three-year tenure. Smith had 18 tackles and four sacks in 37 games for the franchise.

Philadelphia also released guard/tackle Allen Barbe. Eagles veterans arrived Wednesday at the NovaCare Complex in Philadelphia for 2017 training camp.

Smith was suddenly surrounded in a crowded group of defensive ends. The Eagles drafted Derek Barnett out of Tennessee with the No. 14 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. The Eagles also have Brandon Graham, Vinny Curry and Steven Means on their depth chart at the position. Philadelphia signed veteran free agent Chris Long to a two-year deal in March.

The Eagles saved about $1.5 million in salary cap space by cutting Smith now. Smith was owed a $594,000 roster bonus on the third day of training camp, according to CBS Sports. He was also owed $889,515 in the final year of his rookie contract, but none of that money was guaranteed. Smith did not attend Eagles OTAs.
