The New York Jets opted to release Eric Decker on Monday after they were unable to facilitate a trade involving the 30-year-old wide receiver.

Decker had two years and $14.75 million remaining on his five-year, $36.3 million contract, none of it guaranteed. His remaining cap charges will be spread over two years, $1.5 million in 2017 and $1.5 million in 2018.

"I want to thank Eric Decker for his contributions to the New York Jets over the past three seasons," Jets owner Woody Johnson said in a statement. "While with us, he was a competitive, productive, and dependable receiver who represented the team well both on and off the field. On behalf of the organization, I wish him the best as he continues his career."

General manager Mike Maccagnan indicated last week that Decker no longer fit their plans.

With Brandon Marshall set to play for the New York Giants, the Jets' top two receivers -- Quincy Enunwa and Robby Anderson -- have 122 career catches. The team also drafted wide receivers ArDarius Stewart and Chad Hansen in the third and fourth rounds, respectively .

Decker sustained a torn rotator cuff and a torn labrum in his hip, limiting him to just three games last season.

Decker has reeled in 383 career receptions for 5,253 yards and 52 touchdowns in seven seasons with the Denver Broncos and Jets.
